Manufacturing heatproof glass in factories without smokestacks since 1972

■The Koga factory has melted raw materials into heatproof glass using electricity since 1972, an environmentally friendly process that was ahead of its time.

Heatproof glass made of natural raw materials

■Glass was born in Mesopotamian around 5000 BC. The fine sand minerals are melted and formed into glass. Our heatproof glass is made from natural and refined minerals, and is safe for the earth.

Creating products from products, and recycling glass wool from products

■During the manufacturing process, heatproof glass which is not made into products is crushed and recycled as part of the raw materials at our factories. In addition, glass with prints on it that was not considered to be a final product and glass that was disposed of as incombustible waste at the head office is collected and reused as material for glass wool (insulation material) manufacturers.

Fix and reuse quality products, and repair spouts/accessories

■The Lampwork Factory offers accessories and product repairs by taking advantage of the characteristics of heatproof glass, which can be processed by re-heating even when it is used in commercial products. If the spout of the "Jumping Teapot," the "Chirori sake cooler" or the "ChaCha Kyusu teapot" is chipped, it can be repaired and made usable again.

Reducing one way waste & plastic bottles/developing goods that can be reused multiple times

■Bottles and tumblers that can be washed and reused are replacing disposable cups and plastic bottles.

PR is also considerate of the environment

■While some products may have stickers indicating their characteristics, to reduce the paper resources used by printing, we have decided to print the Good Design Award on the V60 Dripper box.

Began the sale of parts in 1950 so products can be used for longer period of time

■We have been advocating the idea of “waste is a waste” for the past 70 years, and continue to sell parts for our products as we encourage customers to replace parts such as glass bowls, tea strainers or filters that have become damaged or stained, rather than throw products away.

Contributing to environmental conservation with the help of forest-protecting paper filters

■The V60 paper filter＊is an FSC® certified, environmentally friendly, paper filter. By using FSC® certified products, consumers can contribute to the protection of the environment.

Glass manufacturing is clean as well, utilizing natural gas

■We provide instruction in lampworking (techniques for creating heatproof glass by hand) and workplaces that offer sustainable employment, from cities and rural areas, to areas that have been affected by disasters.

Through the heritage of our hand-blown glass technique, we produce musical instruments made of glass

■The hand-blown glass molding techniques that we teach are used to create glass musical instruments.

HARIO has declared itself to be a "Healthy Company" and is engaged in various activities such as managing health and improving the internal environment, considering the mental and physical health of its employees as a top priority. Currently, we are certified as an excellent company that actively promotes health management.

We have been certified by promoting our initiatives centered on health management activities based on the organization guidelines of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. We will continue to promote health management activities.

Switching over to LED illumination to promote energy conservation

■We are in the process of changing to LED lighting. (70% of factory lightning has now been changed to LED.)

The raw materials from unneeded plastic boxes are re-used

■Plastic boxes are used when moving and delivering products at our Koga Factory in lbaraki Prefecture. Rather than disposing of these boxes as industrial waste when they can no longer be used due to wear or damage, they are collected by a manufacturer of recycled materials to be crushed and made into recycled raw materials.

Sharing peace of mind with the local area through the installation of AED equipment

■We have installed three AEDs in our Koga Factory in Ibaraki Prefecture and hold seminars regarding their use once per year for all factory employees. In addition to posting a sticker designating AED installation on the door of the factory entrance, they are also registered on the nationwide map of AED locations in Japan to allow anyone in the area to use them.

Eco-friendly water-based paints are used in the factories

■Environmentally friendly water-based paint is used for markings relating to organization and safety in our factories.

Business cards and catalogs are also made from eco-friendly materials

■A management system has been implemented regarding our use of air conditioning. Heating is only used at 21 degrees or less, and cooling is only used at 27 degrees or higher.
